When you send a connection request on LinkedIn, first ask yourself why you want to do so. That way, you'll be viewed as someone worth replying to. Communicate to each person in a unique way that's relatable and respectful. Do lots of networking, but do it in a thoughtful and considerate fashion. It makes you look stupid or desperate - or both. You'd think it was weird, right? If your sales approach is to send lots of information with a strong sales message straight after connecting with someone, stop. You: "Hi, I'm Isla, nice to meet you." Jo: "Hi, Isla, I'm Jo, would you like to buy my services?" What would you do if you met someone at an event and had this conversation? Treat direct messages on LinkedIn the same as if you were talking to a person in real life, too.

Everything you say and do in the virtual world should mirror how you behave in the real world. The same applies to the way you interact with others on LinkedIn, so be careful what you comment on other people's posts. When you're in a meeting, everything you say, do and present reflects you and your business.
